On the hem of the robe they made pomegranates of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, twisted. They also made bells of pure gold, and attached the bells between the pomegranates, all around the hem of the robe, between the pomegranates

My piece is the Priestly Robe as described in Exodus 28:33 and 39:24. I made the robe of linen and embroidered in #12 Leah threads and gold DMC. I attached the robe to an 18” square of 14-count Aida cloth. The breastplate is ribbon and beads. Manipulated fabric; free embroidery; beads; DMC gold metallic; variegated thread.

This embroidery measures 18 by 14 1/2 inches and is done on 40-count linen. It was all done using DMC 6-strand cotton. The leaves are satin stitch, while the stems are two different outline stitches. The blue and purple suggest twisting as in the verse's wording, and are done in an outline stitch.
Pomegranates are, of course, the central theme. The two center ones have red glass beads to represent seeds, with an underlay of tan threads representing the pulp. The skin of the fruit was done with six strands in a pattern following the shape of the fruit.
This work was entered in the 2003 California State Fair. It received 5th place under the title of The Hem of Aaron's Robe.
