by Brenda Zangre Long Island Study Group
The Long Island chapter started a project which was taken over by some of the members and we are opening this up to the rest of the Pomegranate members and anyone else interested who are experienced quilters/sewers.
This project was started in response to the terror attacks in Israel. We wanted to show solidarity with the Israeli victims and families and to let them know that others cared.
We are making child-sized quilts to be given to every child 5 years old and younger who has been, or whose family has been, a victim of terror.
The quilts are made up of 8" (finished) squares, arranged as 5 squares across by 6 squares down for a total of 30 squares with the finished quilt measuring 40" by 48".
Please use bright colors appropriate for young children, and please prewash the fabric before cutting. You may use a lightweight batting or even (prewashed) flannel as the batting. You may use any durable prewashed fabric for the back. You may bind the quilt or use "pillowcase-style" finishing. For those who know how to quilt, please quilt securely, but do not use the clear or smoke nylon type of thread as it is not safe for young children. For those who don't quilt, you may tie the quilt at the corners of the squares (ask a quilter how to do that--it is very easy).
Please send the finished quilts to
