Tribute: Libbey Laderman, 1907-2002

by Elizabeth Tarnove

Pomegranate BadgeIt is with sadness that we learned of the death of Libbey Laderman, a founding member of the San Fernando Valley Pomegranate Guild.

According to Sarah Glickman, president of the San Fernando Day Group, Libbey was living at the Jewish home for the Aging, the Menorah House campus and was still active and attending meetings when she could get transportation.

Many original San Fernando Pomegranate members attended her funeral and, Sarah added, "Her daughter and son did a beautiful thing. They brought a box load of her stitching things, some finished and some in progress, and made each one of us take something home as a gift from Libbey."

Libbey was a stitcher who knew many different techniques and was generous in sharing her knowledge. Her handanger work was impressive, and she designed the badge shown above in the to share as a kit with her chapter. It has been adapted by other members and chapters. It is characteristic of Libbey's personality that she ended her instructions with the phrase, "wear it in good health!" Coincidentally, both the most recent issue of the Paper Pomegranate and this web page published her name badge design within the last couple of months. I know that whenever I wear my badge, I will think of Libbey, her talent, and her generous spirit. She will be greatly missed.
