President, Greater Boston Chapter
The Greater Boston Chapter mourns the passing of Sylvia Gilman, who died in a
car accident on March 12, 2002. While the newspaper listed her age as 83,
she was such a spunky and fiesty lady, that everyone thought she was no
older than 73.
She was always a willing volunteer, helping to set up our
Chapter's chuppah when needed, participating in our booth at a
multicultural fair in downtown Boston and coming to all our meetings and
Board meetings. She could sew, knit, crochet, embroider and more recently
learned to do piecework and applique through our chapter.
I met Sylvia through the Pomegranate Guild a number of years ago, and then
she started coming to the Pierce School Quilters, now the "Brookline Bees"
at the Senior Center. We will all miss her very much.
